Military Authority Recognises Tambuwal As Speaker

In the eyes of the law, leave morality out first, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal is the Speaker of the House of Reps and it would remain so until he declares his own seat vacant or through an order of the court.

Unlike the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, who thinks otherwise, the Armed Forces authorities in Nigeria have recognised Tambuwal as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Tambuwal was duly recognised as House of Reps Speaker at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday where President Goodluck Jonathan launched the emblem and the appeal fund for the 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.

Recalled that the IGP had on October 30 withdrawn Tambuwal’s security details two days after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

IGP Abba had also refused to recognise Tambuwal as speaker on November 26 when the House Committee on Police Affairs summoned him to explain why the police blocked Tambuwal and other legislators from gaining access into the parliament building and later tear-gassed them.

But the Armed Forces, in their programme for the emblem and the appeal fund launch on Monday, addressed him (Tambuwal) as the speaker of the House of Representatives.
